Behind on compliance? Start here.
Rules checked on October 14, 2026. Missing a deadline is common, and most of it can be fixed. Fix the items that can stop your trucks first.
Step 1: see the whole picture. The free DOT check reads your public FMCSA record and lists what looks out of date.

My MCS-150 is overdue. What now?
File the update now. It's free on FMCSA's site. FMCSA says a missed biennial update leads to USDOT number deactivation and possible civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, up to $10,000.
I missed the UCR deadline.
Register and pay anyway. The UCR Plan says the fee is still due after January 1, and an unregistered company can face state enforcement.
I haven't filed an IFTA return.
IFTA returns are due every quarter, even if you had no miles. Contact your base state's IFTA office. Late returns can carry penalties and interest, set by the state.
I don't have a drug and alcohol program.
Set one up before you dispatch again. FMCSA lists having no testing program, or no random testing program, as an automatic failure of the new-entrant safety audit.
My driver files are incomplete.
Build a driver qualification file for each driver, starting with the medical certificate, CDL and driving record. Get each driver's MVR and review it at least once every 12 months (49 CFR 391.25). Use our DQ file checklist.
I failed my new-entrant audit.
FMCSA requires a corrective action. If you don't complete it, your USDOT registration is revoked. Read the notice carefully and act before its deadline. For legal questions, talk to a lawyer.
